2020/2021 Season

Norwell Travel Basketball is pleased to announce that registration is open for Norwell boys in Grades 4-8 for the 2020-2021 Travel Basketball season.

In order to ensure there are clear expectations regarding the important changes to this season, we ask that you please carefully read the following information before registering your son.

During this unprecedented time, we ask for your patience and understanding as we wade through new and evolving guidance from the State of MA.

The Norwell Travel Basketball Board is strongly committed to providing the youth in Norwell with a fair, fun experience, where players can refine their basketball skills in a competitive environment.

  • Registration Fee: For the 2020-2021 season, we are very pleased to announce that there will be no increase to the registration fee. The Travel Basketball fee will remain at $350 for the season.

  • Practice & Game Locations: Due to COVID, Norwell Travel Basketball will not have access to the use of the town facilities. Games and practices will be played at the Wolves Den in Pembroke, and Starland in Hanover.

  • 2021 Refund Policy: Due to the increased cost to the program to secure private space, purchase insurance, purchase PPE, etc., if the season is terminated for any reason, refunds will be complicated. If the season is cancelled, or put on hold for any length of time, Norwell Travel Basketball will attempt to be as fair as possible in refunding money, or issuing credits for next year, but can NOT guarantee any refund can, or will, be made. Parents should understand that the $350 fee may indeed be entirely non-refundable.

  • 2021 Player Team Assignment: One of the biggest changes to the 2020-2021 Travel Basketball season is there will be NO tryouts. Players will be placed on the team they evaluated onto from last season. New players, including fourth graders, will be placed on teams based on the best information available to the Board and Coaches. We understand this is not an ideal situation and does not allow for recognition of those players that have evolved and grown over the past year. It is an extremely unfortunate circumstance of these unprecedented times. The only exception is if a spot is open on a team due to a player not returning from last season, that spot will be filled based on the knowledge and counsel of the Coaches and Board.

  • Cohort/# of player restrictions Under current State of MA COVID rules, teams must be capped at a ten player cohort. Norwell Travel Basketball regrets and realizes that this may result in player cuts. The Board is committed to doing everything possible to ensure every child who desires, can play Travel Basketball this season. However, the flexibility that has been afforded in previous years is not available this season. The Board will investigate every possible option, and will attempt to minimize player cuts if possible.

  • Attendance: The Board appreciates multi-sport players. However, we do ask that in light of potential cuts and lack of tryouts, parents and players commit to attending all games and practices.

  • 2021 Uniforms: Uniforms will not be ordered for returning players. We ask that all players wear their travel uniforms from last season. New players will be addressed on a case by case basis. Please reach out to us at norwelltravelbball@gmail.com if this is a particular problem for a returning player.

  • Registration Deadline: The deadline is WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 18. There will be no late registrations accepted, except in the rare situation where a team is short players, and there is the capacity to add players to the ten player cohort. Practices are expected to start on Monday November 23.

  • COVID guidelines: Per current COVID guidelines, players and coaches will be expected to wear a mask 100% of the time. We expect spectators will be limited to one spectator per player per game; and it is anticipated that no spectators will be allowed at any practices for any age group. Further COVID guidelines will be distributed to all registered families in the near future.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through these unprecedented times together. We hope you are all well, and look forward to seeing you all on the basketball courts soon!
